Making chicken tacos is quick and easy. All you need to do is marinate the chicken in a blend of spices and lime juice, then fry it until golden. Fresh vegetables such as red onion, red cabbage and avocado add crunch and freshness, while a creamy sauce based on sour cream or Greek yoghurt completes the dish.

Chicken tacos are a dish that can be freely modified by adding your favourite toppings and spices to create your own version. INGREDIENTS

Chicken:

  • 500g chicken breast
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 2 cloves of garlic, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Vegetables and accompaniments:

  • 8 small corn tortillas
  • 1 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 1 cup chopped red cabbage
  • 1/2 cup fresh coriander
  • 1 lime, cut into quarters

Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup sour cream or Greek yoghurt
  • 2 tablespoons of lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

INSTRUCTIONS

Chicken preparation:

  • Cut the chicken breasts into thin strips. In a bowl, mix olive oil, lime juice, garlic, Roman cumin, smoked paprika, oregano, salt and pepper. Add the chicken, mix thoroughly and set aside for at least 30 minutes.

Chicken frying:

  • In a large frying pan, heat the olive oil. Fry the chicken over a medium heat for about 5-7 minutes, until well fried and golden.

Sauce preparation:

  • In a small bowl, mix sour cream (or Greek yoghurt), lime juice, maple syrup, salt and pepper.

Preparing the tortilla:

  • Warm the tortillas in a dry frying pan or in the oven.

Assembly of tacos:

  • Top each tortilla with a portion of fried chicken, chopped cabbage, avocado slices, red onion and fresh coriander.
  • Sprinkle with lime juice and pour over the prepared sauce.

NOTES

Chicken: You can use chicken thighs instead of breasts to make the dish juicier.
Extras: You can add your favourite toppings such as tomatoes, cucumbers or corn to enhance the flavour.
Sauce: Add a little chilli to give the sauce a spicier flavour.
